Modernizing the Silents

Silent films were never silent – anything from a lone piano player to a full orchestra was there to elevate and accentuate the story on the screen as it unfolded.

The Mary Pickford Foundation is encouraging young and gifted composers and musicians by having them write, record and perform original scores for our newly restored and digitally mastered films. We work diligently to produce new scores that not only compliment the films, but also entice a new generation to discover Mary Pickford. Below is a glimpse of what goes into that work.
