The Mary Pickford Foundation Archive

The Mary Pickford Foundation is committed to working with archives all over the world to not only preserve Mary Pickford’s films, but all silent films. We strive to be an invaluable resource for students, scholars, researchers, filmmakers and anyone interested in discovering and preserving the history of early Hollywood.

This footage features Mary Pickford and her adopted World War I battalion, the 143rd Field Artillery of Camp Kearny, California. Colonel Ralph J. Phaneuf and the soldiers officially made Mary their Honorary Colonel, and the men are seen as extras in the film Johanna Enlists. Music by Samuel Barber.
