Experience silent film the Texas way with a screening of the 1926 Mary Pickford classic Sparrows at Austin’s historic Alamo Drafthouse on Sunday, March 3rd. The Mary Pickford Foundation is committed to working with archives all over the world to not only preserve Mary Pickford’s films, but all silent films. We strive to be an invaluable resource for students, scholars, researchers, filmmakers and anyone interested in discovering and preserving the history of early Hollywood.

This footage features Mary Pickford and her adopted World War I battalion, the 143rd Field Artillery of Camp Kearny, California. Colonel Ralph J. Phaneuf and the soldiers officially made Mary their Honorary Colonel, and the men are seen as extras in the film Johanna Enlists. Music by Samuel Barber.
